Aakifah was admitted as an attorney on 27 October 2013 and was converted to the roll of advocates on 17 October 2019. She became a member of the Johannesburg Bar on 4 December 2019. She is a tax specialist and registered tax practitioner with particular experience in the following tax types: corporate tax advisory, customs and excise taxes (including diesel rebates), employees’ tax, international tax (double tax agreements, permanent establishment analysis, place of effective management, controlled foreign companies, withholding taxes, mutual assistance programme), merger and acquisitions tax (corporate rollover relief rules, debt vs. equity funding), private equity tax (partnership structures, section 8C issues, venture capital companies), mining tax, transfer pricing and related issues and VAT. Aakifah also has experience in litigation of general commercial matters as well as administrative justice cases. She has an interest in media law and alternative dispute resolution.
